What is Usui Shoki Ryoho Reiki?

Usui Shoki Ryoho Reiki originated in Japan as a form of natural or energy healing. The word “Reiki” comes from the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and “ki” (life energy) and means “mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign”. Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things.

How is Reiki practised for healing?

As a Reiki practitioner, I use a technique called “palm healing” or hands-on healing through which a "universal energy" is transferred through my palms to the energy fields of my patient or client to encourage emotional or physical healing.

To ensure that Reiki healing has lasting results, clients must make a conscious decision to accept responsibility for their healing and take an active part in it. I facilitate and support my clients in this aspect of the Reiki healing. As a Reiki practitioner, I understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and to use it towards their own and others’ healing.

How can Reiki help you?

Reiki can lessen the impact of stress and tension as well as a number of conditions mental, physical and spiritual. It does not replace, but can complement, medical treatment and advice.

Reiki is holistic, reaching the mind body and spirit. It is accumulative, with energy levels building upon each treatment or practice. It can also be effective for animals.

My background and training

I first came to Reiki seeking a natural and holistic support for my wellbeing in 1997.  When I began, the significant benefits to myself and to others who I knew were receiving treatment were evident.

I began my Reiki training in May 2003, following years of Reiki treatment and a steady meditation practice. I qualified in Level 1 first degree (Shoden) in 2003, Level 2 second degree (Okuden) in 2005, and Level 3 master/teacher (Shinpiden) in 2019. After having practised for many years on family and friends, I finally opened my treatment room in 2021. I am eager to reach a wider population to offer a source of support, relief and nourishment, and help people to access their own healing potential.

What happens in a session?

At your first appointment, we will discuss your reasons for seeking healing. I will give you a brief overview and answers any questions or concerns you might have. I will ensure that you are comfortable throughout the session. Your wellbeing is my priority while I am practicing with you. At the end of the session you are welcome to share your experience and ask any questions, however, the healing often speaks for itself. You may feel the effects more strongly the day after or a few days after the session. You can carry on as usual after a session but should stay well hydrated and try to avoid stressful situations where possible. You can choose to have only one session, or to have a series of sessions for a particular problem, or to come monthly for general well being.

I adhere to the registered practitioner criteria. I follow the code of ethics and the code of practice as set out by Shibumi. The International House of Reiki and the Reiki Federation.
